WONDER WOMAN TO THE RESCUE

In a country lead by a woman prime minister, speaker of the parliament, pilots and defenders it seems that we have really managed to come really far when it comes to women empowerment. Yet, the situation for a wanderlust filled girls hasn’t changed much. Even till this day, most girls are bound to return home after sundown. Whenever an unmarried girl mentions of a “tour”
to her family, she is most likely to hear, “You can go with your husband after you are married” as a typical response. It in such a context, in September 2017, that Wander Woman by Sabira Mehrin started its journey as a Facebook
group. A support system for female travelers, is what she calls it. An open platform for women all across the globe, but especially for Bangladeshi female travelers share their travel stories and firsthand unbiased reviews here. Wander Woman has a network of 15+ partners who are contributing exclusive services and offers to its members through official collaboration model. Sabira Mehrin herself also took initiatives to promote tourism and woman-centric services for the community.
On February 21, 2018 Wander Woman hosted the annual exclusive day-trip with 100 female travelers at The Base Camp, Gazipur. A trip filled with numerous activities and fun sessions, it was a first of its kind in Bangladesh. The event was sponsored by TVS Jupiter and International Distribution
Bangladesh Ltd with Radio Foorti as its radio and Chologhuri as travel partner. Base Camp Bangladesh and Thousand Miles Expedition were venue and activity sponsor for the event. Through such an attempt, fellow wanderers were able to bond beyond just social media. Faced with the query about Wander Woman’s future, Sabira Mehrin replied, “It’s amazing how girls extend their support immediately seeing another Wander Woman in need. We are planning to expand beyond Bangladesh and take it to global standard to strengthen the network of female travelers. This platform shall promote
Bangladesh’s scenic beauty at it’s best through developing the community of traveling bloggers.” She also shared the organization’s plans to celebrate of Women’s Day. With a platform united with professionals, entrepreneurs,
creative minds, Wander Woman will be connecting the achievers to “WIL Fest”, an exclusive celebration of Women In Leadership Initiative.Wander
Woman is planning to showcase the women partners, collaborators, well-wishers, artists and designers through social media as a small gesture of appreciation of the women who are changing the traveling landscape through their support. Exclusive domestic trips for all girls from Wander Woman will also be offered on the occasion of Women’s Day.
Today, Wander Woman isn’t a platform, it’s a cause that thousands of women believe in. It’s a new wave of free-spirit that affected both veteran and aspiring female travelers of Bangladesh, and even across the border. It aims to be inspiration and support to every woman who wishes to go out on a jaunt — to see sights and enjoy nature as do their male counterpart. The ability to travel breaking the societal barriers is a phenomenal power in itself. This is why Wander Woman and its unsung heroes should be celebrated.
