Studio MM by Minimal Mudassir

What started off as a part-time job for a little bit of pocket money, ended up helping him discover his passion for fashion. In conversation with Ahmed Anik Mudassir, we highlight the journey of his very first brand, Studio MM, and how it came to be.

Ahmed Anik Mudassir, better known as Minimal Mudassir, first gained attention from the public eye when he and his friend began taking advantage of their social media handles by simply posting pictures dressed in fashionable outfits. Grabbing the attention of many fans and followers, it wasn’t too long before he started getting offers from various brands, becoming a well-known face of the modeling world. Since then, Mudassir has been a youth-favorite across social media platforms in Bangladesh.

Mudassir began his career in fashion while he was still pursuing his undergrad degree with a part-time job in one of Dhaka’s top-rated men’s fashion brands, Zurhem. Here, he learned all there was to know about a fashion brand; how to build a brand, how the fashion industry works, and the challenges that one could face.
With his modeling experience, acquired knowledge of the fashion industry, 2 years’ worth of savings, and a well-built organic fanbase, Mudassir was finally ready to pursue his dream of establishing his own brand, Studio MM, in 2019. When coming up with this brand, Mudassir focused on a few key selling points.

His first selling point for Studio MM was affordability. He wanted to ensure the clothes he sold were accessible so that students just like himself could afford to wear his brand.
“Since I was a student myself, I felt the importance of being able to look good while earning a little money,” says Mudassir.

Studio MM focuses on inclusivity

The second selling point was style, and that was a word Mudassir aimed to reinvent through his minimalistic approach to fashion. He always believed that in order to look good, you need to keep it simple. This was quite apparent through his very first launch that introduced the brand to the market with a bang. Studio MM’s first collection was inspired by Kappa, an Italian-based fashion company. This launch consisted of a range of outfits, Whites, and Blacks splashed with Red.

The brand’s last, and probably most compelling, selling point was inclusivity; a brand that fits all sizes. “From my experience as a model, I know that brands tend to make clothes for generic sizes that mostly fit models,” shares Mudassir. “That’s why at Studio MM, whether you’re a size 30 or a 50, you’ll find something that fits you just right!”
In 2020, Studio MM released its first Eid collection which consisted of a range of Panjabi’s for men. This collection, named ‘Asir’, was an instant hit even during the pandemic.
“I was very grateful to all my craftsmen for delivering right in time for Eid as well as working hard throughout the harsh pandemic times,” mentions Mudassir.

In this collection, you’ll find men’s Panjabi’s in different colors and styles; from hand-embroidered to floral collars and cuffs, these fashionable ethnic pieces are sure to bring out your inner fashion enthusiast!
Soon after this, Studio MM launched a women’s collection, ‘Amihaar’, named after Mudassir’s mother, which features traditional, chic outfits fit for an elegant occasion. It was through this range that Mudassir discovered his knack for designing women’s clothes over any other niche, so he began putting more time and effort into ‘Amihaar’.
“We’ve recently just launched a collection of velvet ethnic pieces, a fan favorite for the winter-wedding season,” says Mudassir.

Moreover, the customizable option that Studio MM has to offer is simply amazing. Gone are the days you needed to go all the way to India to buy affordable bridal wear. Tailor-made lehengas are available at Studio MM; all you have to do is describe what you want, specify your budget and a lehenga will be designed that fits all your specific requirements while remaining within your range of affordability.
Studio MM is set to launch yet another Eid collection this year, with imported fabrics and craftsmanship from Kolkata.
“I’m very excited for this next collection,” shares Mudassir. “I can’t wait to share it with you all!”
It’s always refreshing to witness a budding local fashion guru promoting our ethnic roots with his own brand. Through Studio MM, Mudassir has indeed managed to turn heads at a remarkably young age, and we hope to see much more from Studio MM in the near future.
