An Influencer of Taste

Over the past year, there have been many influential content creators who made their way to the fashion scene in Bangladesh. Colors has a conversation with one of them, who seems to cross everyone’s mind – Troyee Chowdhury.

Troyee Chowdhury, a native Chatgaiyya (from Chattogram) who crossed over to Dhaka some two years ago, felt a little suppressed when it came to exploring bold, fashion choices in Bangladesh.

Once she forayed into content making for Instagram and then became more confident about showcasing those fashion choices to a larger audience. In her words, ‘I always aspired to create content that is of international standard.’ She loves to articulate inspiration behind all her content and exhibit her bold fashion choice – something that she has come to be known for.

In the meantime, she has achieved massive success by getting recognition for her eye-catching content. This has made many renowned clothing brands, organizations and telecommunications giants want to work with her; they include Noir, RISE, Grameenphone, Klubhaus, House of Ahmed, Kotha, FoodPanda and a vast array of online businesses. She has also been featured in multiple magazines over the past year in recognition of her work.

‘There is a huge opportunity in our country to earn by making creative and high-quality content. Many successful content creators are a living example of this. If it is a norm globally, it should also become the norm for content makers here in Bangladesh,’ she mentions. Detailing how it is possible to be an influencer, work for brands and branch out to a career in the fashion industry, Troyee Chowdhury says she initially joined as a content writer for House of Ahmed, a reputed fashion label in the country. In six months, she began to look after marketing, brand communication, and management for the House of Ahmed. ‘I am a self-disciplined, detail-oriented person by nature and I have a very organized approach to my work. I love the creative part of my work, such as art direction, styling and writing.’ She recently received an award from the state minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, for ‘Talent in Content Creation’ for her content for the lifestyle app, Kotha.

Who knows where Troyee Chowdhury will go next? Besides her love for fashion, she is a gifted sketch artist with an Instagram blog called inkmeblack. ‘These days, everyone can have a voice,’ she says. ‘If you have something to say, you can have an audience that will listen to you. No matter what you are interested in, you can always find a community that shares your passion.’
