Nepal: The Himalayan kingdom

For decades Nepal stood proud as the world’s top trekking and mountaineering destination. Medieval cities, treks that take you amongst snow-capped Himalayan mountains, and jungle wildlife adventures – there truly is something for everyone in Nepal.

Kathmandu, the capital, where pagodas and shrines dominate open squares and narrow alleys hemmed in by wooden buildings and fretwork screens. The bazaars are a vibrant world of traders, temples and human traffic – colorful and utterly captivating. The restaurants are amongst the best in Asia. The Buddhist stupa of Bodh Nath on the outskirts of Kathmandu, a pyramid like landmark on which Buddha’s all-seeing eyes are painted. Pokhara, Nepal’s second city six hours by bus (or a short flight) to the west of Kathmandu, is an alternative base for planning your trek. Sagarmatha (the Nepalese name for Everest), is the major draw, but there are countless trails to choose from, threading through green foothills and past creaking glaciers, snow-cloaked peaks and high-altitude deserts.

Surround yourself with the greatest mountain scenery where you will feel an incredible sense of accomplishment amongst some of the most awe-inspiring landscape in the world which will connect your two souls deeply. Nature fans should also head south to the Royal Chit Wan National Park, to comb the grasslands and forests in search of one-horned rhino and Royal Bengal tiger. Hour-long ‘Mountain Flights’ – a scenic loop out of Kathmandu, with fantastic views of Everest – are extremely popular and not much more expensive than a normal flight.
