KONA: Cosmetics by FARNAZ ALAM

Over the past few years, the makeup industry has witnessed an exceptional growth. Different dimensions have been discovered and added to it and new ideas are being welcomed. Nazifa Tasnim engages in a conversation with Somaya Sultana, branch in-charge of Women’s World Limited, to know more about this brand’s vision and new launches.

Kona by Farnaz Alam is a Bangladeshi brand by the renowned makeup artist Farnaz Alam who spent three gruelling years to develop the makeup line. Her vast international exposure that included being part of the prestigious London Fashion Week helped her in carrying forward this process. She named this brand after her mother Kona Alam.

Somaya Sultana shared with Colors that the vision of the brand was to develop cosmetic products that would be suitable for our hot and humid weather conditions and would complement the skin tones of the Bangladeshi women. She pointed out that often international cosmetics that we use here are made for dry weather condition which turns makeup greasy after few hours of application. This, she said, was one of the key points that were kept in mind when the products were developed.

Launched towards the end of 2017, the brand has won many hearts and some of its products have become staples for not only regular users but also makeup artists around the country. Here are some of their best selling items and the new additions to their product lines.
