DIY FACE MASKS THAT ACTUALLY WORK!

Face masks are a great way to give your skin the extra attention that it deserves. Besides, there is no skin concern that a good mask can’t make better and treating yourself to a face mask doesn’t require a trip to the spa or creating a hole in your pocket. With little effort and a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry or fridge, you can create a mask for any skin type right at home. Nazifa Tasnim shares some DIY facemasks that has been tested to give visible results and work wonders for your skin.

01.Turmeric for Glowing Skin

 This common household spice has several health benefits and has long been used in many skin care items, especially in Ayurveda. Women have used this ingredient since a long to enhance their skin tone and to get rid of other skin problems.

Things you need:

  • ½ teaspoon of honey
  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons of mashed banana

Mix all the aforementioned ingredients in a bowl to get a paste-like texture and then apply the mask on your clean face and neck. You need to wait for a good 30 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. This mask can be used twice a week.
Turmeric is an ingredient which is very effective for giving a radiant glow. Honey works as a moisturizer and also has antibacterial properties. Bananas help to control oil production. 

Alternatively, you can also use:

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • ½ tablespoon of whole milk

The process is similar, mix them well and apply it on your skin for 30 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This remedy can be used twice a week. Milk contains lactic acid which helps to clear our skin and remove the dead skin cells.

02.Multani Mitti for Spot-Free Skin

Multani mitti, also known as fuller’s earth, is highly beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin. Its lime content is known to kill harmful bacteria and remove excess oil and dirt, thus leaving the skin clean and soft. It offers a cooling effect to the skin and relieves the inflammation caused due to severe acne. Fuller’s earth also helps tighten the skin, which further reduces wrinkles and fine lines. Whether you have dry skin or a normal one, multani mitti won’t disappoint you!

Ingredients required:

  • 2 tablespoons tomato juice
  • 2 tablespoons multani mitti
  • 1 teaspoon sandalwood powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Make a paste by mixing all the ingredients and apply it on your face for 10 minutes before rinsing it with warm water. A paste of Multani mitti, tomato juice, and sandalwood powder will help reduce the facial spots and a dash of turmeric powder will provide the required glow. But, do not forget to do a patch test as tomato juice doesn’t suit everybody.

03.Aloe Vera Face Masks for Sensitive Skin

If you have sensitive skin, then you need to be careful about the ingredients that are there in your skin care products, thus DIY face masks are your best bet. This mask is particularly great for sensitive skin; the main ingredient here is Aloe Vera. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamins that help to protect your skin by limiting the production of free radicals that damage your skin cells. It can do a lot for the health and appearance of your skin, including reducing the signs of aging.

To make this mask you need:

  • 1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon of mashed ripe banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon of honey

Mix all the ingredient and blend the mixture well with a spoon until it turns creamy. Apply the paste on your face and neck, leaving it for approximately 30 minutes. Wipe it off using a clean damp cloth. Repeat 3-4 times a week.

Apart from the Aloe Vera used, the banana in this mask helps to maintain skin firmness, provide anti-aging benefits, remove acne and blemishes while leaving a healthy glow to your skin. On the other hand, honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can kill bacteria that damage your skin.

04.Bentonite Clay Mask for Acne and Dry Skin

This particular skin condition can be a little tricky to deal with. You need to pick ingredients that are effective to treat acne and at the same time ensure that they don’t make your skin drier.   

Ingredients required:

  • 1 tablespoon Bentonite Clay
  • 4 teaspoon Rose water
  • 1 drop Frankincense essential oil
  • 1 drop Lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop Tea Tree essential oil

In a small dish, combine clay, rose water with essential oils until a paste is formed. Do not use a metal utensil to stir. Apply the mask with your fingertips and allow it to dry for 30 minutes.  Rinse it off with warm water and follow with a hydrating toner and moisturizer.

 Known to be rich in nutrients, Bentonite Clay is known for its detoxifying properties, that helps to draw out excess oil, makeup, grime and build-up and lightly exfoliate the skin. Rose water helps to soothe irritated skin while reducing skin redness. Frankincense essential oil is a powerful astringent, that helps to protect skin cells, reduce acne blemishes and appearance of large pores. On the other hand, Lavender oil is believed to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and Tea tree oil can be a powerful weapon against acne.
