AKASH DTH: An Open Sky for Every Corner of Bangladesh

Changing the TV viewing experience with the most aspiring connection

Tin Paharer Mukh is a truly remote and impassable village in Thanchi, Bandarban, a hill-tract district of Bangladesh where grid electricity is not available and mobile network strength is still very weak. People of this hill-area do not have a sufficient source of entertainment. They know about television but they have never had the chance of viewing it in their village as it is impossible to reach the area for any cable networks. But their days of sorrow has ended since AKASH DTH, the country’s only legal direct-to-home service provider, reached them in April of this year. AKASH has opened a big and bright sky of happiness and entertainment for the tribal and local Bangladeshi people, making their lives happier and entertained.

“Got the connection of AKASH DTH leaving cable network. Now I can count the stones of ear-ring of the heroine in the movie (Dish line baad diye AKASH niyechi. Ekhon nayikar kaaner doolgulo-o gona jay),” Mahbuba Dina, a Dhaka city dweller, recently posted this comment in her Facebook timeline just after experiencing  AKASH connection at home. She is highly satisfied with the picture quality that AKASH DTH provides.

Shanta Islam, a fifth-grade student living in Manikgonj town, had been bored with the picture and sound quality when she would see class lectures on the television as the local cable network service provider could not provide a clear picture and sound quality with the connection. Later she started to miss the recorded lectures on TV which led her parents to reconsider the TV connection because of the importance of attending the lectures during this pandemic. At last, they brought AKASH into their home which ensures a quality TV viewing experience for Shanta and brings comfort for her eyes and ears.

These are not only the cases of AKASH DTH customers but also signs of significant changes in Digital Bangladesh. AKASH is changing the TV viewing scenario of the country. It has brought unique equality and equity in television viewing in the societies as it covers every corner of the country including remote, island, hilly, and flat areas with the same quality of service. It has become an optimum source of entertainment. On the one hand, it ensures that the people who do not have access to a cable network can watch TV; on the other hand, it gives a premium TV viewing experience to the users who were previous users of cable networks.

Although Bangladeshi television has had a high number of viewers, the nation did not have the freedom to enjoy the perks of DTH technology till now.  AKASH, the DTH brand of Beximco Communications Ltd, aims at changing the game and taking the Pay-TV industry of Bangladesh to a new era of excellence and it has started to provide service using the feed of the Bangabandhu satellite-1 from May 2019. Since the launch, some significant changes have been taken place in the TV connection industry and AKASH became an aspiring TV connection brand as it ensures uninterrupted and quality TV viewing for the customers. It has gained the trust of thousands of families across the country.

With the emerge of AKASH, we have been able to rid ourselves of antique technology and are now a step closer to achieving the dream of a digital Bangladesh. We no longer have our hands tied and now we can update our connection to match our smart and modernized TV sets.  Our 14-inch black and white TVs are gone. In the context of Bangladesh’s population, the TV viewing experience has so far been enhanced solely by the improvement of the TV hardware technology as better quality and sleeker designs of global and local brands have taken over the market. There are, however, two elements that are still missing- a high-quality connection + high-quality customer service which would give people the maximum benefit from their TV viewing experience.  The TV is as good as the connection that it gets. The TV’s power as the entertainer of the house is also therefore as good as the connection it gets.

A cable connection cannot provide a True 1080P viewing experience even though we seek HD in every sphere of our life now a day. Even if a TV channel is full HD, only because your cable connection is backdated and incapable of transmitting that feed, you, perhaps will never know what it feels like to watch a true HD channel. To provide true HD quality viewing, Set-Top Boxes are required and as analog cable technology is not Set Top Box dependent, it is impossible to get the full 1080P view through copper cables.

Getting regular and emergency service is important for the everyday TV viewing family. But it is really tough to get from the local cable service provider as they mostly operate monopolistic control over their territory. Though few digital cable operators came into the game quite a while back, they couldn’t change the scenario to any level which is near notable – also mostly due to their cable dependency. That’s why they haven’t been able to make a wide footprint in the form of wide-scale area coverage. AKASH also breaks this monopoly system which compels the service providers to become more caring to the customers and it has already gained the trust of thousands of families across the country.

As AKASH is on the way of most aspiring TV connection brands in the country, Beximco Communications now is trying to make it more affordable by reducing connection prices, offering different connection packages and subscriptions, and ad on. The brand wants to fulfill the demand of people from all walks of life. As the country’s only legal DTH service provider, AKASH aims to provide the highest number of TV channels with premium quality picture and sound at the lowest possible price.

Currently, AKASH DTH offers three kinds of connections- AKASH Regular, AKASH BASIC, and AKASH Multi connection. The users can enjoy TV viewing by purchasing a monthly subscription of AKASH Standard with 120+ channels including 40+ HD for BDT 399 and AKASH Lite with 70+ channels including 20 HD channels for BDT 249.
